The desktop app

The desktop app finds your speakers and serves them the audio your browser sends. It does not need looking at, and mostly it is not: it lives in the system tray on Windows and Linux, and in the menu bar on a Mac.

Closing is not quitting

Closing the window leaves the app running in the tray or menu bar, still serving your casts. To open the window again, choose Open Thaumic Cast from its tray menu.

The tray menu also has:

Item	What it does
The status line	Nothing casting, or how many casts are running.
Launch at login	Starts the app when you log in.
Stop all casts	Stops every cast through this app, from any computer.
Restart Thaumic Cast	Closes the app and opens it again, ending every cast on the way.
Quit	Quits the app. Every cast stops.

Rooms

Rooms lists every room the app has found, what each is casting, and which rooms it is Grouped with.

Ask again asks the network for speakers afresh. Use it after switching a speaker on, or pausing a VPN.
Stop all casts stops every cast.
With Show diagnostics on, a casting room’s card shows its speaker’s Reserve: see Sound cuts out.

Speaker notices appear at the top of Rooms: a speaker that cut out, or may soon, with the setting to change.

Listen on another device

A casting room’s card has Copy URL: the cast’s address on your network. Open it in a media player, or a browser on another device, to listen there while the cast lasts. It does not keep time with the speakers, so it is no use in the same room.

Server

Server says the app is running, and shows:

its Address, with Copy address: what to type into an extension on another computer (see Use an app on another computer);
Extension connections and Casts running.

Under Actions:

Action	What it does
Restart Thaumic Cast	Closes the app and opens it again, which ends every cast on the way.
Disconnect extensions	Hangs up on every extension, which ends every cast. The extensions ring back by themselves in a few seconds; the casts need starting again.
Stop all casts	Stops every cast, including any started from another computer.

Settings

Section	What is there
Startup	Launch at login.
Appearance	Theme: Auto, Light or Dark.
Speakers	Speaker monitoring, the speaker head start, clock drift correction and diagnostics: see Advanced audio settings. Also Add a speaker by IP address, and the list of speakers Added by IP address.
Reset	Reset all settings: every setting goes back to its default. The connection stays as it is.
