Get started
Thaumic Cast comes in two pieces. The desktop app runs on your computer, finds your speakers and hands them the audio. The extension lives in your browser and is where you press Cast. Set them up once; after that it is a click.
-
Install the desktop app.
Get it from the download page: Windows, macOS or Linux. The app is not signed yet, so your computer will ask before it opens it; Install the desktop app shows what to click.
Its first-run tour ends on Ready to cast, with Desktop app: running and a count of the rooms that answered.
-
Add the extension.
Install Thaumic Cast from the Chrome Web Store. It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other browsers built on Chrome, and the store keeps it up to date. In Edge, allow extensions from other stores when it asks.
The first time you open it, a short tour looks for the companion (the desktop app or Thaumic Cast Server) and lists the rooms that answered.
-
Cast your first tab.
Open a tab that is playing something. Click Thaumic Cast in your browser’s toolbar, choose a room or several, and press Cast. The cast appears under Casting now, with a volume for each room and Stop to end it.
No speakers?
Section titled “No speakers?”If the tour finds no speakers, check they are switched on and on the same network as the computer running the app. Then see No speakers found. If the extension finds no app, see The extension cannot find the app. Anything else: Troubleshooting.
- Cast to several rooms, and different tabs to different rooms.
