Thaumic Cast

Release notes

What changed.

The desktop app, the extension and the server, newest first.

0.13.1

Its name in the Chrome Web Store now says what it does.

  • The extension is now called “Thaumic Cast: Play Any Tab on Sonos” in the Chrome Web Store, on the extensions page and in the install prompt. The toolbar button and menus keep the short “Thaumic Cast”.

0.13.0

Rooms, saved sets, video sync and a new look.

  • Cast to rooms: choose them in a rebuilt popup, and they play in step as one Sonos group. Add a room to a cast that is already playing.
  • Saved sets: keep the rooms you always choose together, and cast to them in one go. Rename or remove them in Settings.
  • Every cast starts at a safe volume, no louder than a limit you set.
  • Video sync, off until you turn it on: it plays a film’s sound early so lips and words arrive together.
  • Copy a running cast’s URL from the desktop app, to listen in a media player too.
  • Long casts keep going instead of running dry: clock drift correction is now on by default.
  • A new look in both apps, with clearer messages and a first-run tour that says what it is doing.
  • Pause and skip from the popup’s cast card, and see from the toolbar icon when a tab is casting.

0.12.0

Browser-wide capture, and controls that work both ways.

  • Browser-wide capture on Windows 11: the desktop app can capture the whole browser’s sound, which avoids the gaps tab capture can leave.
  • Pause, play and skip from the Sonos app as well as from the extension.
  • The extension says when the desktop app or server is out of date.
  • Smoother lossless playback, and speakers with a fixed volume are recognised.
  • Keep the tab awake is on by default.
